Spotify (SPOT) was supposed to launch is IPO this morning at around $130 a share. The unorthodox IPO is not selling new shares, just allowing insiders to sell shares they already own. At the moment, without the normal stabilizing process of an IPO, people are suggesting $165 a share as the opening price, but trading has not yet begun. This seems improbable, and the delay suggests there are unresolved issues.
Last year, Spotify lost $1.2 billion dollars. The stock just opened at around the $160 mark, and 7 million shares traded hands in the first few minutes
The opening trade will likely be the highest trading price for a very long time. The stock closed down in the high 140s and continues down today, as Donald Trump continues to drain the global trading swamp. The stock is highly dependent on the rate they have to pay for music royalties for on-demand listening, and there is no reason to think that expense will go down. Sales of Spotify coffee mugs will not make up the difference,

The Democrats have a history of expanding the royalty gravy train because it funds their party the say way union dues fund their party.
President Trump, is smart enough to see this just as he is smart enough to see that tax payers subsidize the US Post Office and that Amazon has a special deal from the US Post Office (Amazon delivers directly to your local post office and your local post office directly to your address) ….. and he knows that Bezos controls one of biggest critics, the Washington Post.
I’m glad Trump is President, but I am not sure he is a good chess player like Putin.
Deploying our military on the Mexican border is what many people have wanted for decades – but don’t do that unless the soldiers have bullets in their guns and authority to shoot civilians who are deliberately and conspicuously jumping over our border defenses. The invasion will not stop until we show we will stand up to the U.N. Majority of countries that want to destroy the hegemony of the United States.
This should be done with ‘regular army’ troops, not the National Guard. i.e. federal control, not state. As for shooting illegals, that’ll cause PR problems; setting up large ‘holding pens’ on the -Mexican- side might be a lot more persuasive. Obviously, if troops are fired upon by invaders they should eliminate the threat immediately. I think we need 10x as many troops (30,000+) to make it clear, not only to illegals, but to Mexico.
Contrary to liberal whining, Posse Comitatus does not apply, as this involves the U.S. border and a foreign insurgency. I’d like to hear some statement to the effect of: “if Mexico continues to aid and abet, we’ll treat it as a hostile nation.”
The shooter at youtube yesterday had been upset because youtube had demonetized her youtube channel so that she could not earn money or advertising revenue. A lot of people have invested vast amounts of time and money in developing content for social media only to see the same fate for “politically incorrect” content.
Another liberal irony story here: the shooter herself had posted a video on youtube in 2014 saying that her car had a bumper sticker saying “meat is murder”.
I have come up with a plausible theory. Her parents are Persians (Iran) and she has a strong accent, which suggests she is not a third generation American. Dad called the police and reported their adult daughter as missing when she started ignoring their phone calls for two days.
Her videos on YouTube were her dancing like a prostitute (by Middle Eastern standards) and her exercise videos seem to have no real educational value.
I think it was Dad who contacted Youtube and that is why she was demonetized, She was whoring herself online for money, while probably still living at home. That would really run afoul of Middle Eastern sensibilities.

For those otherwise occupied, there was a shooting at the Youtube headquarters in California. The shooter was a young woman of Iranian background (many of her videos were in Farsi). She was a vegan and supporter of PETA. She injured three people, then killed herself.

Her beef with Youtube was they had demonetized her Youtube Channel because her exercise videos were too racy. More likely they were scared by a woman with a gun speaking Farsi saying how she hated YouTube’s silencing her voice. Police had interviewed her shortly before she left to do the shooting.
Having looked a bit more, you can appreciate that if a child searched YouTube for puppy and instead got a video of a dog being killed for food, Youtube had to limit it to adults. Autoplay of related videos is pernicious inside Youtube,

You’re absolutely right. Similar with beheadings. I generally don’t look at them, but to ban them from the internet would be similar to banning picture of the Nazi Holocaust… wiping it clean with a cloth as Hillary did with her server… a bigger disservice.
Having said that, it is not suitable for young children or even adults that come to a site for entertainment or something pleasant to use for singing or dancing.

I heard that CC, last Monday. I was driving to Mordor ( NOVA) and you can start to pickup WMAL AM 630 around Woodstock VA. on I-81. His show was coming on and he started talking about Mike McKay passing away, pretty rough.
I only heard that Monday show, of all his shows last week. I was at the main office in Vienna. I will never get that week back !
Best part is seeing Vienna, Sterling & Leesburg, in your rear view mirror on a Friday! I usually go out rt 7 to Winchester to 81 south.
While all those ( beep) s up there in NOVA may hate President Trump, they sure do like his economy ! Building is going on everywhere. The area where my company is located was practically a ghost town the last 9 years. Last year businesses started moving in & are leasing buildings. Parking lots are filling up. Ever the Hyatt where I stayed was full most nights. Its something the amount of growth in one year, those big ‘data centers’ out in Loudon county are everywhere. There was talk of the Nordstrom going back to the Dulles town center mall. Its a Dollar tree now.
Yeah they all hate Trump but like the economy. I dislike that disingenuous place. The whole NOVA area should be burnt to the ground and salt spread everywhere !

If you can take I-81 all the way to Roanoke and then US220 to Rocky Mount, you will find a better Philly Cheesestake at “The Hub” than anywhere in Philadelphia… and I grew up in the Philadelphia area.
Re WMAL – you can get unlimited data plans pretty cheap on most phone carriers. Have one of your parents sign up for the over 55 plan and charge your credit card so they never see a bill.
In solidarity with the “impeach trump 2018” movement, I am removing all references to Facebook in the Radio directory, and reclassifying stations that consider Facebook acceptable as their only web presence as being an unknown format with no web page.
Perhaps add an icon of the presumed mascot for those stations: a jackass

What about sites that only have a twitter page? I have found a few. They mostly fall into one of two categories: broadcast stations in third world countries that have limited budgets; and streaming only stations that depend on donations. The common thread is they both have limited financial and technical resources.
Jack Dorsey is no conservative. Same can be said for Jeff Bezos and his AWS hosts more than one station, I am sure.
It’s tricky. The Huffing and PuffingTon Post’s parent company also hosts sites. Ditto for MSLSD’s parent company.
Michael Savage works for Cumulus via Westwood One. Talent contracts can be terminated by the Cumulus bankruptcy proceeding, and Savage is sending out signals that this fact is becoming apparent to him – but he likes to make noise when he is unhappy. With iHeart also in bankruptcy, there is nowhere else to go except Salem.

This is a fuzzy memory, but Savage had been on some Salem stations and he was booted off. It may have been his vile personal attack on Anne Coulter for having the audacity to state that people of her faith have a responsibility to “perfect” Jewish people by telling them about Jesus.
Over the years, Savage has said many anti-Christian things for anyone who actually listens to his words. The two co-founders of Salem (Ed Atsinger and Stuart Epperson) are getting old and ready to turn the reins over to the next generation. One of the Epperson kids already run their own religious networks outside the perimeter of the publicly traded Salem.
Nothing wrong with saying anti-Christian things, anti-Muslem things, anti-Jewish things or whatever your personal belief system is. I don’t think Savage ever encouraged beheadings, suicidal bombings.
I can certainly see that a pro Christian organization would not see fit to pay someone to say anti-Christian things on their air. The Christian country of the United Kingdom has banned Savage from entering.
I hope we can get to a point where we can all have a respectful discourse on politics and religion without every disagreement being labeled as “hate speech” or criminalized. It is unreasonable for expect the world to have one religion or one government or to try to force that upon people.

I bet people will be ‘contacting’ Yeti . I bought a small flex Yeti cooler back last fall and do-dah me didn’t pay attention, it doesn’t have a handle on top. Hence the reason LL Bean had marked it down.
So Maybe I will send it back to them and a strongly worded letter saying, It need a freaking handle ( new models do) & you all need to get your head out of your arse !
There are many premium cooler options, K2 & Pelican. Otterbox ( the cell phone case guys ) are coming out with a line of coolers and stainless steel mugs.

DeWalt( the tools company) is now owned by Black & Decker, may have been a long time. I bought a 3/8 drive 14mm socket and same as a deepwell socket. Well made, good 6 point sockets . Interesting though, made in Taiwan ( the good China).
But really, DeWalt needs to make sockets in Taiwan to be profitable ? The regular socket was $4.89, the deepwell was $6.19 something like that. I got them at Rural King.
Rural King is the nemesis to Tractor Supply co. We stopped and looked at the chicks and ducklings. Chicks = baby chickens in this case : )
I also got Mrs Parrott the Schleich model Cat.
They were busy, people buying plants and all sorts of things. Yeah, I think brick and mortar stores do very well if they have what people need.
They have free popcorn for you to much on while you cruise about the store. Rural King is in the old Kmart store.

If you access this website via a dodgy VPN, the website may vanish. During the night, an unsuccessful attempt to break into the server came from over 40 different IP addresses controlled by a VPN. Those VPNs have been blocked by me.
Google refuses to index the streaming radio guide polls
They are visible in Bing if you search by something specific, but completely blocked within Google, probably as “hate speech”. The fact that Bing has them visible strongly suggests that there is no error on my part.
I was once blocked by Avtavista because FindAnISP.com was getting too much free traffic. One day, I got an email from an ad rep who saw I was advertising on Google. I mentioned that my site was banned. She got the ban removed. I didn’t buy ads. The ban returned. I danced on the grave of Altavista. Google made a ton of money from me, and I have the Google beach towel to prove it.
Licensing of web sites is an obvious next step. The idealism of the “internet ethics” is fading fast

Yandex is a good alternative.
Google still seems to return the most appropriate results, followed by Bing. If I can’t find something obscure, I will also try Yandex.com and have been surprised at how good it has become. If that does not work, I might try Bidu but have never found it to have useful results.
It isn’t about what I want to find – it is that Google searches will never see a Streaming Radio Guide poll. If Google does not index something, it does not exist.
After catching up on some of the radio changes, it is very clear to me that the FCC is cracking down on dormant AM stations. The silent station list at the FCC used to be updated only once per month, and many of the radio stations were playing the game of “I will pretend to have a radio station transmitter for a day” in order to keep their license alive, despite not having a functional radio station.
The availability of FM translators for AM radio stations really lifted the last reason why the FCC might not have compassion. Many of the stations have new owners and have returned to the air. I have to believe our military or spy agencies can quickly see where AM and FM stations have active signals. The FCC seems to also be getting better at detecting and stopping Pirate stations.
The “big guys” all seem to be moving their radio licenses into LLCs. I don’t know why, but I suspect the tax law changes are the motivation.
Macdonalds 1Q report had exactly the unexpected consequence I anticipated. Because McDs is participating in a jobs program to lower taxes, they assumed a future tax savings that has been reduced. So, in the short term, lowering tax rates has caused large non-cash accounting losses that flow through as non-recurring losses.
Lower corporate rates are a good thing for the US. Many of my liberal, “corporations are evil” friends did not understand the financial engineering resulting from the high corporate rates and how they shifted tax payments from Washington to countries that compete with the US.
In short, the big multinationals have a corporation in each country where they do business for tax reasons- each country wants to tax their activity inside its borders. One obvious game is to locate call centers and IT services offshore in lower tax jurisdictions and then overpay for the services to show a high profit in the low tax jurisdictions and a low profit in the high tax jurisdictions.
While my friends and most people that have called an overseas call center understand that, they did not understand the game going on with “IP” or intellectual property. Regardless of where something is designed, the IP ends up being owned in a low tax jurisdiction and is licensed back at a high fee to the high tax jurisdiction operations. Not hard to understand if you think of Apple.
But less obvious is that Amazon does it for its internal business processes. They are licensed from Luxembourg where they have a sweetheart deal better than their proposed deals for their HQ2. “Because it was a specific type of legal entity, called a “non-resident partnership”, any money it received from other Amazon entities in exchange for the right to use that IP would be tax-free.”. That European deal sheltered “hundreds of millions of euros in “royalty fees” for that IP each year”

Maybe four years ago in the blog, I had opined that the war on global trade has been lost. While I admire President Trump’s instincts, he lives in a past that no longer exists and isn’t coming back. The United States is not a fort with walls. Much of our businesses are owned by globalists (purchased with money created by the fed and loaned to the EU banks) and most of our manufacturing has moved to China.
The only “American” jobs that exist are ones where the work must happen here – doctors, restaurants, Starbucks baristas, auto mechanics and farming – jobs increasingly filled by immigrants (legal and otherwise). Two generations of young people grew up with a sense of entitlement and view productive work as an evil to be avoided and raising children an unreasonable infringement on their social life. As I look around Charlotte, much of the under 40 crowd spend their evenings drowning their loneliness, debt and lack of purpose in a $40 bottle of wine.

There are a few young people that visit the local gun store, but most are oldies like me, the 50+ crowd.
