Mapleton Communications (Website) owns and operates about 41 radio stations (11 AM, 30 FM) on the West Coast, in California, Oregon and Washington. The company is mostly known for KPIG, a unique freeform music format station located in Santa Cruz. Mapleton’s Headquarters is located in Los Angeles, California on Wilshire Boulevard.
Mapleton was founded in 2001 by Adam Nathanson and his father Marc. Marc Nathanson had made a fortune at Falcon Cable, which he sold to Microsoft’s Paul Allen in 1999 for $3.6 Billion. Mr Nathanson loves radio for its ability to “target specific demos” for advertisers. [I am not a demo, damn it, I’m a human.] Here is a 31 minute from the junior Mr. Nathanson explaining his business plan. It’s clear he knows very little about radio and learned what little he knows “on the job”.

Marc Nathanson owns about half of the company. Most of the remainder is owned by Corporate Partners LLC, a private equity firm that previously was part of Lazard Alternative Investments,, a Merchant Bank in New York. (Merchant Bank implies British ownership)
On July 21st, 2009, Lazard took control of the company where Mapleton failed to meet its debt payments.
