American Family Association

American Family Association (website) is the operator of American Family Radio, a Christian religious non-profit broadcasting network.  Since Non Commercial stations are not required to have a local presence and programming most of their radio stations (and repeaters) carry one of two programming formats – inspirational (music) and religious news/talk.   American Family Association is headquartered in Tupelo Mississippi.    They are aggressively acquiring more stations – as of May 2009, they have 145 FM stations, and 51 FM translators.

History

American Family was founded by Don Wildmon, a Methodist minister.  He founded the American Family Association in 1988.  The mission of the AFA is “to motivate and equip citizens to change the culture to reflect Biblical truth.”

In 2009, when Michael Reagan lost his syndicated program with his previous syndicator, he acquired a 1 hour program on AFA’s News/Talk network.

Funding

AFA solicits donations on its web site and on the air, however it provides no financial disclosure information on their web site.  They are a member of ECFA.  For the year ended June 2008, AFA raised $19.3 million, and used 92% of its funds for program activities.    The organization has net assets of $36.4 million
