To elaborate on this a bit more, the Enquirer had rented rooms in the hotel before confronting Edwards (who was not registered as a quest). That means that someone told them about the meeting. It seems unlikely that Edwards or the friend who took him there called the Enquirer - which strongly suggests that the woman ("the mistress") was working with the Enquirer to entrap Edwards. If you start from that frame of reference, anything about this that they got from the woman needs to be viewed as highly suspect. Keep in mind also that Edwards is a trial lawyer who would gladly sue any media outlet that ran a story based on this kind of flimsy information.
