Who needs uber with 5 a ride?

While listening to Savage (Mike DePetro), WGNC-AM in nearby Gastonia NC had a local ad for $5 a ride Taxi

You can ride anywhere for $5! As long as it is within the Kings Mountain city limits (population 10,000 in 12 square miles), and between 11 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday, closed Sunday (this is North Carolina, after all)

    Competition is good.

He’ll also pick up groceries or your meal at McDonald’s and bring it to your home for $10. The bigger threat to taxis is the free or heavily subsidized government provided mini buses that are by far the most inefficient mode of public transportation, not even counting the cost of the driver.

Of course, the even bigger threat to government is totally unregulated transportation like that in the Lagos Nigeria video. The guy on the motorcycle taking you where you want to go for $.50 is not providing real time tracking data to the NSA

One of those goes past my home a couple times per day. I would guess it holds 20 people. Maybe 5-10 rows of seats from memory. The problem is, after seeing it pass by hundreds of times, I’ve never seen anyone in it but the driver.

The other interesting aspect is that the “free” transportation for seniors it mainly to take them to the government senior center where they get a free lunch. They will also take seniors shopping for free. They will not take seniors to churches or places of worship.

Guess what! There are popular places to shop directly across the street from places to worship. 😉

I have a blind neighbor who is that way from a medical screwup where he was given pure oxygen as a premie – long after doctors realized pure oxygen causes blindness. His dad is a rich TEA party guy who moved here from Montana.

Because there is no regular bus service at the curb, dad pressured CATS to provide him a minivan to take him somewhere every day. I really doubt he is doing any actual work – probably going to school to get a law degree to fight to get more spending to pay for minivans to take more blind people to college to become lawyers to… I grew up around these people.

Without the mini van, his options are: use a taxi and pay for it, live with dad at his million dollar house on Lake Wylie, get married to a sighted woman, make friends with a sighted neighbor who will take you where you want to go, ask your church to help you, move uptown and get a seeing eye dog and mobility training

Some states reimburse seniors and others in need for taxi rides. In Pennsylvania, that was the purpose of encouraging poor people to buy lottery tickets each week.

Can the seniors take a taxi to go buy lottery tickets? Just imagine how the multiplier effect in a positive feedback loop will create prosperity for all!
