The roots are too deep to rip out. Three more years until Medicare for me. Two months until Social Security. Hard to believe. 40th college reunion in a few weeks.

We can only hope someone grows a spine and removes the wart from the skin of America’s population.
40th College reunion. I have never done one. One of my predecessors in school was Joseph Hazelwood. I am not fond of reunions anyway.
dear brian: it was interesting to see how people self-selected into groups during the reunion activities, just like in college. we avoided the noisy, boozey stuff and hung out with the smart, quiet kids. even went to a friday afternoon class (remember avoiding them like the plague when you were picking courses?) taught by a retired professor fred recalled.
i got to meet a semi-retired tv reporter who worked in the charlotte market for years. (we agreed the thing we both miss most is the newsroom — as he put it, the camaraderie.) people of substance are always fun to talk to.
this was the first reunion fred has attended and it was a delight to see how much he enjoyed himself. you might, too.
