Notice the beady green eyes.

If you are ever in Fort Mill, SC at the intersection of US 21 and SC 160, it is definitely worth stopping at the Peach Stand, even outside of peach season

A couple days ago, a 28 year old man who lived with his mother in Lancaster, SC walked into the Peach Stand, pulled out a gun, shot the 19 year old woman behind the cash register multiple times until she was dead. There was no known connection between the man and the dead woman. It was not a robbery. He stood in the store calmly until police arrived. He was employed in a Goodwill store in Lancaster SC, about 20 miles away.

Fort Mill is a very cohesive small community about to be consumed by the growth of Charlotte. The town and people who shopped there are still in shock.

Sad, I will be interested to learn his motivation. The article does not state his party affiliation so it is very unlikely that he was a registered Republican.

A few more details leaked out from the Lancaster paper. His Mom came here from Puerto Rico. They lived in Monroe NC before moving to Lancaster SC.

Puerto Ricans have a peculiar legal status for voting. They can’t vote in Federal elections unless they have changed their legal residence to a State.

they sell wonderful peaches but i wonder how long that will continue. right nearby is a sign about a new medical complex that is to be built in what is now a peach orchard. the development in the fort mill area is on steroids — not as crazy as here in charlotte but still astounding. it’s people, businesses, professionals moving in and turning fort mill into a suburb of charlotte.

Hopefully – they sell peaches. It is a bit north of the Peach State 🙂
