Based on what we know, everything points to the idea that Russia provide a sophisticated surface-to-air missile system and that a missile \u2013 probably not guided by sophisticated radar required by the system \u2013 shot down the Malaysian Airliner – the people on the ground believing that they were shooting down a Ukrainian government cargo plane.<\/p>\n
In 1988, while Ronald Reagan was president, the USS Vincennes \u2013 a state-of-the-art aegis cruiser with the most sophisticated radar and missile systems the United States had at the time \u2013 shot down an Iranian civilian airliner over the straits of Hormuz. The A300 Airbus, which would’ve been a huge echo on radar and was actively identifying itself as a civilian aircraft – inside the designated air corridor on a normally scheduled flight – was shot down killing all 290 persons on board. The US military claim that it thought it was shooting down an American built F-14 highbred by the Iranian Air Force \u2013 left over from the pre-revolutionary era American funded military buildup of the Shah of Iran.<\/p>\n
