If you hold a full power radio station license, you have an obligation to keep your station on the air every day at close to full licensed power.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If you have a problem, you have to notify the FCC and tell them why the station is off the air.\u00a0\u00a0 If the FCC wants to play hardball, the only valid reasons are things that are “outside the control of the licensee” – like a tornado, an involuntary bankruptcy, the transmitter exploding – “We can’t make a profit”, “we had to fire the staff”, “we can’t find an engineer to work on the transmitter” are not generally valid excuses, although the FCC has been letting things slide over economic issues.<\/p>\n
