Last night, while “checking” to see if John Bachelor was still on WABC-AM in New York, I noticed the entry said Seaton Hall College Basketball might be on the air instead. It occurred to me that I haven’t heard live sports on WABC for a long time.

Sure enough, Seaton Hall left for WNYM-AM (the Salem station for New York City) two years go. WABC also used to carry Army Football. A brief check suggests that Cumulus probbly has dumped most of their sporting event programming on the former ABC news talk stations. While America loves sports – I don’t. The main reason for doing the work of tracking which stations carry which sports was to identify that streams were down because of a sporting preemption, not a failure of the stream. Past appeals for help on the sporting information went unanswered. People don’t normally turn on the radio to listen to basketball – one important exception being blind people, but like Mexican immigrants – they don’t buy very much, making them not valuable to sponsors. Reality is what it is.

Since only a few stations carrying a few programs are still being tested, there is little point to tracking the sporting affiliate information, and even less to spending several months correcting it to make it current.
