{"id":11860,"date":"2016-04-11T14:35:40","date_gmt":"2016-04-11T18:35:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/?p=11860"},"modified":"2016-04-09T07:36:10","modified_gmt":"2016-04-09T11:36:10","slug":"could-you-pass-the-1965-alabama-literacy-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/?p=11860","title":{"rendered":"Could you pass the 1965 Alabama literacy test?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Written January 20, 2015]<\/p>\n<p>This morning, Glenn Beck and his staff were discussing the movie Selma, and where Billionaire Oprah Winfrey cannot vote because the Democrats controlling the post-Reconstruction South wanted blacks to be unable to vote for Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>This points to my frustration that comes up a lot.   &#8220;Selma&#8221; is a movie based on a script &#8211;  it isn&#8217;t based on actual verifiable events.    Jim Crow did exist, but is her portrayal of what the test was like actually representative or the real test?<\/p>\n<p>Put away your pocket Constitution and give it a try.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ferris.edu\/htmls\/news\/jimcrow\/origins\/images\/al_literacy.pdf\">1965 literacy test<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other than it not being multiple choice, it&#8217;s pretty similar to the test required to get US Citizenship.
