a web site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Firefox has long been much more &#8220;open&#8221; at allowing you to see everything a web server is doing (things like not allowing a web site to disable right click without your permission).<\/p>\n<p>Firefox has an addon called Firebug that is extremely helpful and interesting.\u00a0\u00a0 It may be a little on the geeky side, but even if you aren&#8217;t a geek, you can still see a lot of useful information.<\/p>\n<p>To use it:<\/p>\n<p>Install Firefox browser if you don&#8217;t already have it:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.com\/en-US\/firefox\/new\/\">Firefox<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Install the Firebug addon:\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/getfirebug.com\/\">Firebug<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Turn on Firebug from the Tools menu in Firefox<\/p>\n<p>Go to a web page and press F12<\/p>\n<p>See all the Sekrit stuff the evil web site is doing&#8230;.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If you go to<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/streaming-radio-stations.php?formatid=1\">http:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/streaming-radio-stations.php?formatid=1<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>the what&#8217;s on now page, you&#8217;ll see that my web site doesn&#8217;t cause your browser to do anything unexpected:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/johngalt.streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/firebug12.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1251\" title=\"firebug1\" src=\"http:\/\/johngalt.streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/firebug12-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>every single request goes to my web server.\u00a0\u00a0 The page downloads completely in a little over 2 seconds.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It starts to load the web page, sees I use a .css style sheet, and then starts to see I have about 25 different graphics, which my server returns in parallel.\u00a0\u00a0 The &#8220;sneakiest&#8221; thing it does is near the end it loads up countdown.js, which is a javascript thing that was counting down the number of seconds until May 21, 2011 and the Rapture.<\/p>\n<p>Now let&#8217;s compare that to a\u00a0&#8220;free&#8221; a sneaky backdoor method to reach <a href=\"http:\/\/www.openx.org\/\">Openx<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.openx.org\/\">openx.com<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; surprise surprise surprise!<\/li>\n<li>imrworldwide.com &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ddmcd.com\/managing-technology\/cookies-imrworldwide-and-nielsen-netratings-whats-the-connec.html\">Nielson Net Ratings<\/a><\/li>\n<li>paypal.com (!)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.conviva.com\/\">conviva.com<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Video Ad monetization<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/adap.tv\/\">adap.tv<\/a> &#8211; Global Video advertising<\/li>\n<li>lphbs.com &#8211; an anonymous domain whose purpose seems to be to subvert Adobe Flash cookie cross-domain policy limitations<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.turn.com\/\">turn.com<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Amazon<\/li>\n<li>2mdn.net\u00a0\u00a0 (wants to write flash cookies to your browser)<\/li>\n<li>rlcdn.com &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rlcdn.com\/\">Rapleaf<\/a> &#8211; &#8220;we want every person to have a meaningful, personalized online experience&#8221;
