Readers who have the uncontrollable urge to correct every mistake they see on the Internet  need to keep their hands away from the reply button. <\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind the context \u2013 it is 1940, war is raging in Europe and Radio will be at important part of coming war effort most people realize is going to happen. Some people (probably my grandfather) believe the United States should join with Germany to defeat Russia.   However, as German U boat submarines sink American merchant ships, Germany begins to alienate Americans, including German Americans.   Maintaining neutrality during a war is never easy.<\/p>\n<p>The book is intended for blind people, especially those who read braille. Braille has no concept of underlining, bold text, Typefaces etc.   You will see emphasis on the words by putting them inside quotes, which is not normally good style for writing \u2013 but you are not the intended audience &#8211; neither is the New York Times editorial staff. The longer the words in braille, the more likely the reader will not understand the word or their finger will wander,  depending on the experience of the reader.   Short words and short sentences are how to write &#8220;good&#8221; braile.<\/p>\n<p>In 1940, FM radio and TV were still experimental.   The book explains only AM radio.  If you are not a dinosaur, you will find concepts you may not understand.  Ask your grandfather.   In 1940, house wiring was protected by fuses, not circuit breakers. 15 amp circuits were more than any house would ever need, power outlets had two prongs, not three, transistors and integrated circuits don&#8217;t exist yet.   Automobiles have 6 volt batteries.  Many people still start their cars by turning a hand crank in the morning.  Cars don&#8217;t need seat belts.
