It was always a mystery to me why the same people who despised “No Child Left Behind”, which had similar goals – to Federalize Education and keep those backward school districts in the mountains of Tennessee from teaching Creationism – while ignoring the dropout rates and dismal reading and math scores in most major cities dominated by Democrats.<\/p>\n
Monocultures are bad. Liberals taught me that. Diversity is good – except apparently in allowing variations in what schools teach. Young men in Kentucky who will end up working in the coal mines probably need different learning than a California youth hoping to grow up to be a pot dealer on the beach in Venice.<\/p>\n
The bipartisan Education bill removes mandates for States to implement Federal curriculum standards.<\/p>\n
