

{"id":1478,"date":"2011-06-29T19:20:14","date_gmt":"2011-06-29T23:20:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/?p=1478"},"modified":"2011-06-29T19:22:40","modified_gmt":"2011-06-29T23:22:40","slug":"who-really-attacked-the-intercontinental-hotel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/?p=1478","title":{"rendered":"Who really attacked the Intercontinental Hotel?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.intercontinentalkabul.com\/\">Intercontinental hotel in Kabul<\/a> was holding a two day conference to discuss the details of how to withdraw NATO forces from the country.<\/p>\n<p>Back on June 6th, you may remember that Afghanistan&#8217;s leader Hamid Karzai threatened NATO with attacks<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thespec.com\/opinion\/editorial\/article\/543499--karzai-s-warning\">http:\/\/www.thespec.com\/opinion\/editorial\/article\/543499&#8211;karzai-s-warning<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the past few days, it hit the news that the United States is negotiating the terms of <del>surrender<\/del> withdrawal of NATO forces with Taliban leaders.<\/p>\n<p>There would not have been a place in all of Afghanistan with a higher level of security than that hotel.<\/p>\n<p>The hotel was built in 1969 on a hill overlooking Kabul.\u00a0 That was the year Afghanistan was celebrating its 50th anniversary as a country.\u00a0 The Russian invasion was 10 years away in the future &#8211; the United States was providing economic aid to the country.\u00a0\u00a0 The hotel accepts payment in US dollars only and is clearly designed to Western sensibilities.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It&#8217;s not clear who actually owns the hotel, but <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.marketwatch.com\/thetell\/2011\/06\/29\/ihg-that%E2%80%99s-not-our-intercontinental-kabul\/\">it isn&#8217;t the InterContinental Hotel Group in London.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The place caters to Americans, accepts only US dollars, is built like a fort overlooking the town with big open spaces around it and only one road in.\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;m going to stick my neck out and\u00a0guess the owner is the U.S. Government.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There are\u00a0somewhere around 10\u00a0hotels in Kabul, not exactly a hotbed of tourism.\u00a0\u00a0 All of our contract workers doing intelligence work have to be living somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>So with a fortress and a high profile meeting in progress, an attack of this scope had to be done with the cooperation of the people doing the security.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2011\/06\/29\/eveningnews\/main20075535.shtml\">CBS<\/a> is asking the same question of whether this attack was done or assisted by the Karzai government.<\/p>\n<p>Get ready to see\u00a0the pictures soon of the helicopters evacuating the U.S. embassy.\u00a0\u00a0 &#8220;The Smart War&#8221; &#8211; uh-huh.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Intercontinental hotel in Kabul was holding a two day conference to discuss the details of how to withdraw NATO forces from the country.
