I passed along an important “fact” without double checking it, so I’m circling back to make sure I was not echoing misinformation. I said his father was the first black detective in Charlotte’s police department.<\/p>\n

Brentley went to Liberty University to study criminal justice. Liberty University should ring a bell – it is the Jerry Falwell University in Virginia. He was on the football team and wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps. He graduated in 2012 and was hired by the CMPD in 2014.<\/p>\n

The CNN story says they tried to talk to his dad, Alex Vinson – who they identified as a retired Charlotte police officer.<\/p>\n

Which mentions he was in the US Army and has 27 years in law enforcement. Dad votes regularly and is a Democrat.
