

{"id":2639,"date":"2011-09-12T08:08:53","date_gmt":"2011-09-12T12:08:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/?p=2639"},"modified":"2011-09-12T08:11:12","modified_gmt":"2011-09-12T12:11:12","slug":"is-creating-memorials-a-mistake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/?p=2639","title":{"rendered":"Is creating memorials a mistake?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Israel has a lot more experience dealing with terrorism than we do.<\/p>\n<p>When someone goes into a restaurant and blows themselves up, the cleanup crews immediately arrive, the damage is repaired, and if you walk by the next day, you would never know the place was bombed.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Their idea is that when you create a memorial to what a terrorist did, it creates further incentive for future terrorists.<\/p>\n<p>I agree with that.\u00a0\u00a0 I think this whole thing yesterday, and building parks and memorials\u00a0 and having globally televised services reading the names of the dead is exactly the wrong thing to do.\u00a0\u00a0 The 10 years of squabbling over the shape of the reflecting pools instead of putting up a new building is much more of an incentive to a future 9\/11 than the &#8220;9\/11 mosque&#8221; would have been.<\/p>\n<p>Just to be clear, I&#8217;m not agreeing with the idea that the twin towers should have been built identical to what it was.\u00a0\u00a0 I worked with people who had worked in the building and it was a horrible place to work.\u00a0\u00a0 It was a New York \/ Port Authority make work boondoggle that should not have been built in the first place.\u00a0\u00a0 The buildings were never really rented out and the changes on Wall Street (automation of trading) mean the demand for office space in that area is drying up.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Israel has a lot more experience dealing with terrorism than we do.
