

{"id":2751,"date":"2011-09-27T15:18:08","date_gmt":"2011-09-27T19:18:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/?p=2751"},"modified":"2011-09-27T15:18:08","modified_gmt":"2011-09-27T19:18:08","slug":"who-is-ali-tarhouni","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/?p=2751","title":{"rendered":"Who is Ali Tarhouni?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the video in another post, Ali Tarhouni is now the person from the National Transition Council of New Libya.\u00a0 Being in charge of both the restarting the oil business and overseeing the $170 billion in assets in the Libyan treasury means he is the man with the real power at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>He is described as an exile who hadn&#8217;t lived in Libya for 40 years, and from the video it&#8217;s pretty obvious from his English that he has lived in America.\u00a0 So let&#8217;s do some research and what motivates him<\/p>\n<p>Well, that wasn&#8217;t hard at all.\u00a0\u00a0 Prior to becoming this really powerful person, he was a professor at the University of Washington (state)<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/news\/articles\/uw-faculty-member-ali-tarhouni-named-finance-minister-by-libyan-opposition-1<\/p>\n<p>He holds a doctorate in economics and finance from Michigan State University.\u00a0 He&#8217;s taught at UW since 1985\u00a0 (meaning no real-world experience in anything).<\/p>\n<p>His wife Mary Li (doesn&#8217;t sound Libyan) works in the Washington State attorney general&#8217;s office.<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/news\/articles\/ali-tarhouni-reflects-on-decision-to-leave-uw-help-lead-libyan-opposition<\/p>\n<p>He left Libya while a student after being identified as a trouble maker.\u00a0 That&#8217;s a bit odd &#8211; I thought Qadaffi murdered everyone who opposed him.\u00a0\u00a0 While teaching at UW, he has made it clear it wanted Qadaffi overthrown, and quickly endorsed the &#8220;no fly&#8221; zone.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"Rebel Insider Concedes Weaknesses in Libya\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/svc\/oembed\/html\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2F2011%2F03%2F24%2Fworld%2Fafrica%2F24minister.html#?secret=SE14iNMIai\" data-secret=\"SE14iNMIai\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He was appointed to the job (by whom?) in March, before there even mas much of an organized opposition.\u00a0\u00a0 He left Libya in 1973, was stripped of his Libyan citizenship and put on a hit list.\u00a0\u00a0 (Libya must not have tried very hard to kill him).<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/seattletimes.nwsource.com\/html\/localnews\/2014592498_tarhouni25m.html<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s been active in the exile movement, attending conferences and staying in touch via Skype (indicating this was NOT a spontaneous revolution).<\/p>\n<p>He isn&#8217;t a professor &#8211;
