Khalifa Hifter’s name surfaced very early on when the so-called “revolution” started in Libya.<\/p>\n

Khalifa Hifter had been one of Qadaffi’s generals back when Ronald Reagan decided it was time to “do something” about Qaddaffi. Next door neighbor Chad was embroiled in a civil war, and Khadafi had sent troops over the border to secure the northern part of Chad.<\/p>\n

Upon taking power, one of the first things Ronald Reagan did was intervene in Chad – sending in the CIA and providing military aid through Sudan. What was the US strategic interest in a civil war in a former French Colony in subsaharan Africa?<\/p>\n

The desire to “get Ghadaffi” resulted in the US sending war ships into the Gulf of Sidra and shooting down two Libyan aircraft in their own air space. That started the tit for tat that ultimately ended with the Libyans blowing up Pan Am 103.<\/p>\n

Khalifa Hifter was the General in charge of Libya’s troops in Chad. He was captured by the CIA and “flipped” and moved to his new life living in Virginia near CIA headquarters.<\/p>\n

Colonel Hifter is now asserting that he is leading the Army of Libya, and barrelled his troops into the Tripoli International Airport without notifying the militias guarding the airport that he was coming.<\/p>\n

After Khadaphy took power, the US gave up control of Wheelus Air Force Base, which the U.S. had controlled since the end of World War II and is now Tripoli’s International Airport.
