

{"id":4838,"date":"2012-05-16T01:21:10","date_gmt":"2012-05-16T06:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/?p=4838"},"modified":"2012-05-16T01:21:10","modified_gmt":"2012-05-16T06:21:10","slug":"californias-screwy-election-law-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/?p=4838","title":{"rendered":"California&#8217;s Screwy election law change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many American trends start in California, so it&#8217;s worth paying attention.<\/p>\n<p>On June 5th, voters will be going to a primary election like no other &#8211; it will be a non-partisan primary.\u00a0 Dianne Feinstein is running for reelection to the US Senate.\u00a0\u00a0 The changes took effect in 2011, but this is the first Congressional election since the change.<\/p>\n<p>When entering the voting booth, voters will be given a list of all candidates running for each office and then can vote for anyone they want for each office, regardless of their party affiliation.\u00a0\u00a0 This change was a &#8220;gift&#8221; from\u00a0 Arnold Schwarzenegger with a voter initiative called Proposition 14. \u00a0 When the votes are counted, the top 2 vote counts will face a runoff in November (even if one candidate got a majority in June)<\/p>\n<p>Note this is not the top two, one from each party &#8211; it&#8217;s the top two, period.\u00a0 In theory, if enough Republicans run and fragmented the Republican vote into enough pieces, the November election could be between two Democrats, or Ms Feinstein and a &#8220;fringe&#8221; Republican or perhaps a Green Party candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned.\u00a0\u00a0 More mischief ahead.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many American trends start in California, so it&#8217;s worth paying attention.
