

{"id":5435,"date":"2012-06-24T19:05:19","date_gmt":"2012-06-25T00:05:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/?p=5435"},"modified":"2012-06-24T19:09:28","modified_gmt":"2012-06-25T00:09:28","slug":"privacy-schmivacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/?p=5435","title":{"rendered":"Privacy, Schmivacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Matt Drudge has an interesting story about Condi Rice out at a big gathering of Republican Establishment types, probably making her pitch to be the Romney&#8217;s VP nominee, but this isn&#8217;t about that.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the chronic problem I have with poorly maintained (or abandoned) web sites attempting to infect visitors, I do most of my browsing now with Firefox and an addin called NoScript<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/noscript.net\/<\/p>\n<p>It looks very deep into what web sites are doing and blocks attempts to do sneaky things &#8211; the most common being what are called &#8220;Cross Site Scripting&#8221; attacks.\u00a0\u00a0 They come in lots of flavors, but the general idea is that you visit\u00a0 acme123.com&#8217;s web site, and either because they were hacked or fooled, or perhaps on purpose, a script on\u00a0 weRHackerz.com.ru tries to run, possibly because you have acme123.com in your &#8220;trusted&#8221; zone.<\/p>\n<p>So I clicked on the link, which is nothing but a link to news.yahoo.com (what follows is not Matt Drudge&#8217;s &#8220;fault&#8221;&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0 I hear the &#8220;Alert&#8221; sound NoScript has blocked something\u00a0 -which usually gives me a detailed description of what was blocked and why &#8211; but the screen immediately switches to the news story so I couldn&#8217;t see the warning being reported and act on it.<\/p>\n<p>After maybe a half dozen retries, I was able to get a screen capture:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/scriptme_baby-e1340582911492.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5436\" title=\"scriptme_baby\" src=\"http:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/scriptme_baby-e1340582911492.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1019\" height=\"634\" srcset=\"https:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/scriptme_baby-e1340582911492.png 1019w, https:\/\/streamingradioguide.com\/startingover\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/scriptme_baby-e1340582911492-300x186.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1019px) 100vw, 1019px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What it is telling me &#8211; clicking on that link, fired off 34 different scripts, most are companies I recognize as being in the tracking business for advertisers.\u00a0\u00a0 NoScript allows 29 of 34 scripts to run, and blocked the remaining 5 as suspicious.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Matt Drudge has an interesting story about Condi Rice out at a big gathering of Republican Establishment types, probably making her pitch to be the Romney&#8217;s VP nominee, but this isn&#8217;t about that.
