One regret of my 17 years living in two condos was Halloween. Any kid with a brain knows condos are mostly filled with grumpy old people with no children, and it’s just a waste of time to knock on doors and yell Trick or Treat. That made me sad.

Now I’m living in a large apartment complex with lots of children in evidence, although I noticed after school started and the pool closed, many of them vanished.

I wasn’t sure what to expect – I checked with the office and they hand out door tags if you want to have people knocking on your door. I already had bought the candy, but no idea if I had too much or not enough. It’s probably worth pointing out that it’s a school night. I’m pretty sure Michelle Obama frowns highly on the idea of giving candy to children and would prefer carrot sticks and spinach salad.

I hung out the tag around 4:30 and the last straggler was around 7:30. I remember knocking on doors as a kid up to about 9:00 – wimps 😉

So my memorable moments…

– the first visitor was a 20 something Asian woman with an infant in a stroller (probably 6 months old)

– the inevitable teenagers whose only “costume” is a pillow case

– the Indian/Pakistani parents were all very polite and made sure their children said “thank you” – many in this building drive taxis at O’Hare

– the young boy (guess 8 years old) of the ethnic group that may not be mentioned who had an irresistible urge to reach into my bowl to grab some extras and make sure I knew he was entitled to more ObamaCandy(tm)

I clearly bought too much – I’ll know better next year.
