The bills sponsors include:\u00a0 Patrick Leahy(D-VT), Orrin Hatch(R-UT), Chuck Schumer(D-NY), Diane Feinstein(D-CA), Lindsay Graham(R-SC), Retriing Herb Kohl(D-WI), Chris Coons(D-DE), Dick Blumenthal(D-CT).<\/p>\n
On the surface, it is a bill to prevent people from setting up web sites to facilitate piracy of music and movies – but the legal tools it gives people to assassinate a web site are broad and vague.\u00a0\u00a0 This bill (if passed) would give the courts additional powers to order search engines to suppress listings pointing to a domain that “infringes” intellectual property.\u00a0\u00a0 “Infringe” is a very weak standard.\u00a0\u00a0 Making the claim against a web site could easily be motivated by political reasons, not that there is an actual IP infringement.<\/p>\n
