The Taliban elders were unamimous that they should give up the Arab guy (the Taliban are Pashtun) – except one no vote. The No was from Mullah Omar, and that was enough to stop them from giving him up.

At that point in time (from the Batchelor & Alexander show, a guest – I think it was John Loftus – explained that if you wanted to call the Taliban on the phone, the only way to do that was by calling the ISI switchboard in Pakistan and having them connect you. The Taliban were and are tightly connected with the Pakistani Intelligence Agency. There is significant reason to believe that when the US military arrived in Afghanistan, it was the ISI that got Bin Laden out of the country – all the more backed up by where we found him.

After Bin Laden was killed, one of Batchelor’s CIA type quests made it clear that the ISI would never give up Mullah Omar.

At least one of the reports today suggests that the ISI was involved in his “disappearance”. I’ll bet you anything that the US was about to drop the hammer on Omar, and what happened today was the ISI moved him to a safer location.

Here is the story as best I remember it.
