New Feature – Show Stations by Parent

As a by product of doing all the research into who owns which radio stations and what their financial condition is, I’ve been gathering data connecting the various licensee names stations are controlled by a common parent  (mostly from the 10K or web site lists) and grouped together radio stations where the ownership or the programming of the station is controlled by a “parent” organization.

There is no legal significance to my designation.   Corporate Media Ownership is very complex and often is not a clear black & white distinction, and I’m not a lawyer.  I’m just doing the best I can based on information that is frequenly buried down in boring FCC filings that may be  obfuscated on purpose.

In any case, here is the [Media Parent Ownership/Control list].   It’s only lightly tested, and data is far from complete.   It contains relationships for about the 100 largest owners.  I’m planning to perhaps “lump together” entities like NPR where they don’t actually own the licenses, but program the vast majority of the afilliates who are basically local NPR franchises in each state.

Once the program is more solidly tested and any performance issues addressed (Clear Channel takes a -long- time to spew out… then I’ll start to incorporate the Parent list as an icon next to the station – so you can easily backtrack from a station to the company that has the effective control of the station.
