iPhone, do you?

The deal is done.   I broke down and purchased an iPhone (won’t be here for a few days – seems Apple/AT&T are selling a lot of them lately).

Once it arrives, look to see changes to the web site to make it look less hostile to cell phone/PDA users.   From what I gather, flash players don’t work on the iPhone, and that makes a large part of the stations not streamable.

One feature some people have requested is that the lists be filterable by cell Phone type.   That seems like a reasonable request once I can figure out what that requires and how I can do it reasonably.  There is little doubt in my mind that cell phone streaming is more than just a fad.

If things go well, I might go forward writing a native mode iPhone app.   If you happen to have experience at doing that (show me your app!), now would be the time to propose some kind of revenue sharing deal.   The Apple iPhone API is new to me – I think I might enjoy learning that, but it also might be a huge waste of my time and I would create an inferior product.  I’m a database guy, not a user interface expert

  1. I finally did the deed and did the same thing, I bought 2 iPhones this last weekend. Although. it is somewhat new to me I was looking for an app that streams stations, I belive there is one but it seems to be for F.M.

I did have a Nokia about 4 phones ago, that did in fact have a “radio” built in, It was a FM receiver and the earphones were an antenna, I used to listen to Bob and Tom on it when I was out of the truck.

An ap for the iPhone would be a great idea.

    1. An app won’t get past the limitations of the phone – at least at the moment, my understanding is the iPhone won’t run flash apps, which is the directions a lot of stations have been moving.

  2. Check out an app called Radioshift – Gets FM stations for various genres. A little marketing research .

  3. I really like the ootunes application, it will let you stream thousands of radio stations live.

    http://ootunes.com/app/

Go there and search for stations to see which ones are available. Also i have asked the creator to add more stations and he did so very quickly. The app is cheap and well worth it if you want to listen to streaming radio on your iphone.
