Glenn Beck – Auditioning for Martyr?

Long term listeners know that Glenn Beck’s life was heavily influenced by the suicide of his mother when Glenn was young. If you listen closely to Glenn’s show, there is hardly a day when there isn’t a reference to suicide (“Making your head explode”, “going out to the garage with a rope”,”throwing yourself down the stairs”, etc…)

About a week ago, Glenn gave a “speech” on his program roughly analogous to the Martin Luther King Jr speech – “I’ve seen the promised land, but I may not get there with you” where he is describing the 9/12 movement as being more important than his life or personal safety, and that he may well not live to see its effects – but the cause is more important than himself, his family, his fame or his wealth. [Stu isn’t sure he signed on for this deal]

April 15th, Glenn is holding a very public rally in front of the Alamo in San Antonio Texas. The symbolism of the Alamo is it was where a number of Texans (and supporters) gave up their life to keep Texas out of the hands of Mexico. After all of the defenders of the Alamo were killed, a later counter attack by Texans forced the Mexican troops to leave the Republic of Texas and return across the border. It would be another 9 years before the Republic of Texas would ask to join the United States.

In addition to the symbolism of the Alamo and its parallel to today’s events in our relationship with Mexico, San Antonio is the location of the Corporate Headquarters of Clear Channel, the “evil” corporate conglomerate that owns Premiere Radio – the syndicator of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Dr Laura and other big hitters in syndicated news/talk radio.

This might explain why someone was able to “pull the strings” to get permission to hold Glenn’s rally at the Alamo. San Antonio’s population is about half Hispanic (don’t read into that factoid that people of Hispanic origin in San Antonio want Mexican drug gangs taking over their city).

If you dabble in listening to “Progressive” radio, Glenn is clearly agitating them seriously and they are very angry at him. He’s exposing what “progressive” really means, and using terms like “left wing fascism” to describe what the Obama administration and its supportors are trying to accomplish.

Glenn has ascended to the top voice of Conservative talk radio.

The ratings here reflect that, the noise he is creating on left wing blogs, radio shows and other venues confirm that.  He has clearly made himself enemy #1 of the left (and the people in control of the government).   He is doing this based on his incessant reading of history over the past few years, and learning the importance of “fact checking and having multiple sources” that was drilled into him from his time doing the CNN TV show.

The harmless little fuzzy golf player from Florida is now on the sidelines watching what’s happening and doing incoherent shows – like yesterday babbling to himself for an hour about the Segway/GM project.

So you understanding my feelings about Rush, I drove out to Fort Collins, Colorado from Michigan in 1993 for Dan’s Bake Sale, and was disappointed Rush did that only once and stopped doing public appearances completely after that.

April 15th is just a few days after Easter. This event is in a very public open place.

If you’re going to the rally, keep your eyes on the lookout for danger.

“I’m just saying…”

Keep Glenn in your prayers.

*** April 9th Update ***

Glenn just announced that because of the size of the crowd and security concerns, he will NOT be appearing on stage.

*** April 13th Update ***

Today’s show had 3 references to Martin Luther King Jr, 2 references to dying on the 15th, and Glenn warning people planning to attend to be looking out for danger around them.
