New Listen buttons

The Graphics fairy has been busy making new icons – hopefully to make the pages more cell phone friendly and a more consistent look over all the pages and less cluttered.

The most important old icon – the Listen button – has a group of four new icons.  The color coding indicates the current quality rating (determined only by me at the moment).

Some people incorrectly assume that Red  means “it is broken”.  All red means is that this station’s player takes a long time to start (probably because they use prestreaming video commercials), or it has a history of being down for no apparent reason.   The details of what the quality rating means is described here.

The one important change is the addition of a Blue Listen Icon

Blue simply means “there is no rating yet”.   Up until today, untested stations had a yellow icon.  The blue will act as a motivator to eventually give all stations a rating.  Most music stations do not have ratings – because they are visited so infrequently for testing.

Also the Put Me to Sleep link (where available) has a new icon

It’s not as intuitive as I would like, but I am not a graphic artist and have no budget for one. Fortunately, GIMP is helping me get better with original art.
