Alternatives to StreamingRadioGuide

Don’t be afraid to let other people know what you’ve found out there…   I won’t be offended :)

The ones I’m most aware of:

http://www.radiotime.com/
(RadioTime just changed their name to TuneIn – it’s still the right place)

http://www.talkstreamlive.com/

If you have an iPhone or iPad,  spend $5 and get http://ootunes.com/ which has about 95% of all radio stations

https://www.siriusxm.com/player/

Carries many of the syndicated shows for a monthly subscription fee – internet-only is available if you don’t have a Sirius or XM radio

http://www.crntalk.com/

Carries some of the less well known syndicated shows (free)

The Talk Radio Guide http://www.streamhog.com/ has some free listening available. I’ve only listened to a couple of stations but they worked. Another option but nothing like you’ve given us Art. Thanks again for all you’ve done.

  2. foutsc says:

Radiotime is an alternative, but a very poor one that pales in comparison to the inimitable streamingradioguide.com!

You’re a good writer, Art, and obviously tech savvy. I think your only downfall was being too low key.

Look at how Pam Gellar fought her way from obscurity.

I understand your outlook. I have a small blog and have had various blogger buddies invite me onto bigger blogs, give me advice on how to juice my blog ratings or whatever, and urge me to do some bigtime self-promotion. That’s just not me, so I understand where you’re coming from, I think…

I’ve been playing with coding a barebones version of Art’s great resource… I’ve got quite a ways to go on it, but I thought I’d post it. I just picked a handful of hosts and made composites of Art’s host and station info.

I really need a host for this, so not sure how long I could keep it here:
    http://www.hawaiiansteel.com/media/talkradioguide.php

    • Art Stone says:

With a list of about 5 hosts, you’ll have about 80% of everything people are looking for.

  4. boyofsteel says:

True… true… Say, do the ID numbers you used for the stations have any significance?(licensing number or some such?) They didn’t seem to be consecutive so I was wondering about that. Thanks.

    • Art Stone says:

They are the order they were added. The original ID was probably assigned about 10 years ago. At the time, it was a list of streaming stations, not a list of all stations. So any station which is new or changed call signs has a higher ID#

  5. MarkF says:

I’d be open to help out. Perhaps you could encourage a community of wonks who could verify and correct the listings.

I think that Art is right that there’s just a handful of shows that people really want to hear, but we’d like a schedule that lists the shows we want at the times that we’re free to listen to them. In other words, we want to know what stations carry Dennis Miller at 9:00 PM or at noon, or when we can hear Rush at times other than noon to 3:00 PM eastern time.

BTW, how did you get the data from here to download?

    • Art Stone says:

I”m not sure which question you’re asking. Are you asking how I was able to generate a .csv file, or how I gathered the data in the first place?

  6. boyofsteel says:

Sounds about right, Mark. And, you’re right, I need a summary page for each host detailing the various time slots.

I just used Safari to save the webpages I was interested in, and then parsed the html using perl.

  7. jmyrlefuller says:

    There’s my site.
http://www.fullervision.net/talkradio2.html <– for talk radio (I only have the live broadcasts… somewhere along the line I was hoping to put delayed and replayed broadcasts on there but that, at this point, is a far greater task than I'm able to handle)
    http://www.fullervision.net/musicradio.html <– for music shows

I also have NASCAR and NFL pages, although I haven't updated those in years. I just copied and pasted (with attribution) SRG's NASCAR list onto my NASCAR page tonight.

Gonna miss you, Art, and all you have done with Streaming Radio Guide. It has been a real treat to use. Many, many thanks and may God bless you.

  9. msubobcats says:

I know I have enjoyed Streaming Radio Guide. When I was working, it was used at work. Now, it comes on at 5AM and use/used it until 4PM.
It will be missed. As will the Blog.
    Thank you Art.

  10. DevilsAdvocate says:

For those interested, Amazon’s Android app store has TuneIn Pro available for free today. Haven’t tried it out, so I don’t know how good it really is.

Art, since you don’t plan to monetize SRG, have you considered releasing the source for the site for anyone who might be adventurous and want to start their own?

  11. hokiereese says:

Thanks Art. Really enjoyed this resource you provided. What’s next for you?

  12. MrC_5150 says:

    It….. it……. it’s ………. GONE!! |-(

  13. wjbiii says:

{blink} It’s gone? Oh, that’s really sad, but I do appreciate how handy it always was. Thank you, sir, very much.

  14. sloth501 says:

TuneIn is a decent app. I have used the free version on my Android work phone for a few months and just bought the Pro version for my personal iPhone earlier this week when Art announced SRG was going away.

One downside to TuneIn is that they cannot stream Clear Channel stations I am guessing because CC wants you to use their iheartradio app…

    It’s over…..

    Art:

I don’t believe Ayn Rand would have voted for either one. Like most of us we were caught in having to vote for the one who could do the least damage to our economy and our country in general. Certainly not Comrade Obama. I, a conservative from way back when could not bring myself to vote, not even for the “designated loser” Juan “Amnesty” RINO McCain.

  17. JayMar says:

The end of an era. I will miss Streaming Radio Guide. It has been my companion for the last few years of my life. From 6:00 AM with Quinn and Rose, and for the next 12 hours with many others, sometimes ending with Herman Cain in the evenings or Roger Hedgecock.

Art, thank you very much for all you have done. You have given us a wonderful gift and the ability to express our frustrations and participate in your blogs. You have been an unseen friend that I for one will miss dearly. Good luck in all your endeavors.

  18. boyofsteel says:

Just an update… I have a basic interface I’m happy with reflecting what I’m most interested in:
    1. Current on-air schedule
    2. Summary of all time-slots available for a given host.
    3. Master station list to “surf” for other listings.

If others are interested, I’d have to add timezone support… The guide is still posted at the url shown above.

    • tirebiter says:

I saved the pages for the shows I listen to as Art suggested but the info will always stay as saved….no updates. You have organized it and made it usable and have most of the shows I like. Thank you.

I hope you find a host for your site. Thanks again.

  19. LtRav3nw00d says:

What is going on ? I am sooo confused…

  20. edoutandabout says:

Thanks for the access. MP3 time shifted talk radio IS my drug and
you were my pusher man for two+ years. I suck up 6-7 or more 3 hour
commercial free shows a day. Step one – Admit you have a problem.

    Again, thanks

    • Art Stone says:

      You or me ;)

The military say one of the best ways to hide something right in plain sight – if you wanted to resume your habit.

  21. boyofsteel says:

If you’d like to email me pages you’ve saved, I’d be happy to incorporate… I only found out about all this at the last minute, so I had almost no time to react. My email is at the bottom of the page at the above referenced URL. Thanks…

  22. violet0117 says:

    Al,

If you had any common sense, you would’ve put up a Paypal donation box. You would’ve surely covered your costs of operation that way.

    • Art Stone says:

      Valorie,

You’re absolutely correct. I’m a blithering idiot with not even an ounce of common sense!

      Al

Is tHis For True???? I’m not just seeing things???

  24. kadamson says:

All I can really do is comment. I love resurrections, btw.

  25. kicaza says:

Thank you so much! I have enjoyed the guide for years and will be happy to help and donate if you decide to go that route.

Do you still have the page that lists the “what’s on now” grid? That’s a great way to learn about other shows…

  26. TOMDOX says:

Thank You, thank you, thank you. for someone that hardly can ever leave my bed I cant tell you how much I love this guide. However if you decide the work is too much I understand and have bookmarked my few favorite shows that are on the weekends. I continue to test streams as usual. Thanks so much.
