Peter B is out

Peter B Collins has announced to his audience that he  has decided to end his show effective this Friday.   Peter B. had been syndicated by failed Nova M.  He did not pick up a new syndicator and was only streamed on KKGN in Oakland, CA (A Clear Channel station, by the way)…  His web page mentions KPTK effective March 9th, but they are playing Ron Reagan.  KMPT (in Montana) lists both Rachel Maddow and Peter B. at the same time slot – they are streaming Peter B)

Of course, some in the Progressive Movement are characterizing this as a Rush Limbaugh led corporate radio conspiracy.  Did I mention the only stations carrying his show (and most of the Air America affiliates) are Clear Channel stations? (KMPT is owned by GAP broadcasting, which acquired many of Clear Channel’s small market stations)

To be fair, Peter B did not place blame in that direction.  He recognizes that Air America failed to build a market, and Jones (now Dial Global) is the powerhouse of Progressive syndication (Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, Thom Martmann) and he doesn’t have a contract to work for them.  Self-syndication is a very difficult way to try to get on radio.  If you don’t have a deep and wide network of affiliates, you’re not going to get advertising dollars from major companies.    To succeed in radio, you need both ratings and advertisers.
