Howard Stern playing hard to get? Radio-info.com is reporting that Howard Stern thinks he may not re-sign with Sirius/XM when his contract is up in a few months.

    Hmm… hot talk has really fallen by the wayside in terrestrial radio. Stern could happily retire if he wanted to, because after going uncensored for so long, he really wouldn’t be well served to turn back. Going strictly to cable might be an option (either the Oprah route of getting his own channel or trying to find an existing network that will take his antics), but when his audience is young men listening in their cars when going to work, I can’t see that being all that popular. The Internet as a stand-alone medium is still not strong enough to support a show as big as his, and honestly I don’t think it ever will be.

    However, this will be a big blow to Sirius-XM.

      I don’t listen to him, but I wonder if the bulk of his audience is now 40 year old unemployed single men with drug addiction and mental health problems living in mom’s basement. I can’t imagine that’s a really useful demographic for terrestrial radio. I doubt that 20 something guys would be as attracted to someone who is old enough to be their grandfather…
