Glenn Beck’s house in CT is for sale, according to the Huffington Post. I’ve been suggesting for a while I think Glenn is moving to Texas soon… (or possibly Utah). Huffington Post doesn’t have a source, just a real estate listing – whether or not it is Beck’s house you have to take on faith for now.

Since his radio & FNC show is in NYC, Utah & Texas would be one hell of a commute.
Rush did his show for several years from Florida without people catching on – that’s part of why he has had so much trouble convincing the State of New York that he doesn’t owe them taxes… I had been tipped off by someone on the inside who emailed me
FNC is a bigger problem. Not being in New York would mean less access to in-studio guests. Since I don’t have a TV, I don’t know if that’s much of an issue – as long as he takes the chalkboard with him.
The main factors he has cited that I’ve noticed are:
1) Labor unions – his new radio studio has taken forever to be built and he still can’t change a light bulb without getting “written up”
2) Taxes – the governor has encouraged Glenn to leave the state
3) Personal security – New York City won’t issue him a carry permit so he has to have 24 hr private security (that probably won’t change)
4) Cost – he owns his own production company – Premiere pays him, but then he has to pay his staff, rent, etc… so the huge “salary” you see mentioned is a bit misleading
As a private Chef I was offered jobs in NYC, LI and north of the city…. I couldn’t say, “No”, politely enough and FAST enough. Presumably GB believes much of what he says (I do) the contradiction of him saying things and his location always gave me pause.
In the beginning of syndication (maybe the first year), Glenn and Stu were living in Philadelphia (Glenn’s ex-wife and daughter lived there)… and they drove to New York and back every day. That had to stop when Glenn got the job at CNN.
Conventional thinking is if you’re doing a TV news show, it has to be from New York (or maybe DC) since that’s where all the people you need to talk with are.
When Rush stopped doing the show from New York, it lost a lot of its edge…. back in the New York days, he would talk about going to parties and arguing with libs, how Mayor Dinkens was running the city into the ground, what the NY Times said today… sitting in his enclave in Palm Beach, I sense he doesn’t have much contact with people other than his staff and only gets his news from the Internet and local media…
Beck does the first 20 minutes (sometimes the whole first half hour) solo anyway. The second half hour is just filler. Fox wouldn’t miss a beat if they gave that second half hour to a new show. I’m thinking a law-focused show with Judge Nap.
(and I’m sure that would make some idiot sponsors happy)
I heard Glenn talk about this on a best of show since I posted this – Glenn has sold his house already. The essence of it was “I need to do what I’m telling other people to do – get out of debt”….. so he took his lumps and ate the decrease in value of the house since he bought it and got out of his mortgage. His older daughter is also out of the house I tihnk, so he probably doesn’t need such a big house. Now his neighbors won’t have to be annoyed any more with seeing his American Flag out front..
