Upgraded version of this P2 wordpress theme… it has a few more options – the main thing I’ve turned on is that any registered user can create a post…

Note that is the first 6 or so words that show up on the other pages to draw people to the topic – choose carefully :) Don’t start your post with something like “I was just wondering if” unless your intent is to draw in only the really curious :) Be Bold!

Hacking these themes can be such a pain at times. I ported a “dark” version of P2 into a child theme, but it was for an older version, so it doesn’t work with the new version (with the new media upload and post type options.) Child themes are handy if there are no plans to hack the core theme files, but major updates like this render a child theme useless. I think I’ll stick to the old-fashioned way, like you did here, and just modify the base theme files (and document the changes for when the theme author does one of these @#$% major overhauls.)

I got motivated to upgrade because of my big long post about Glenn Beck…. when I would pull up IESpell to spell check it, closing the dialog would dismiss the edit box and throw away the update… upgrading didn’t change that.

About the only hacks I made were changing the “watcha thinking” which is now configurable and I tried to make the edit boxes bigger – between the interaction with Ajax, css and php, i lost interest in trying to figure out what to do….

Any idea how to use the “Link” feature up above the Post text entry box? The documentation is well…. “self-documenting” I guess….

Along with a little extra functionality, the tabs are actually just category selections. If you make a post with the “link” tab selected, you can then go to the posts in admin and you will see that post listed as being in the “link” category. TPTB probably meant to add some sort of function for the link tab, but ran out of Mountain Dew or whatever keeps them ticking these days :)

The one issue I can’t stand about this theme is that it places a cursor focus in the update text-box. Not as prevalent in IE, but it’s a pain to have to click somewhere outside the text box to get keyboard navigation to work.

When you post a reply, do you get a dialog warning when you hit Post saaying you you are about to discard your message? Clicking OK then goes ahead and posts the message anyhow… it’s possible this is just happening to me

I haven’t seen that, but it’s a question you may want to post at the front of the line to everyone since this thread has gotten buried.

This version works much better on the iPhone – it shows the nested comments inline

I’m getting error messages in IE6. (I’m stuck with it at work)
