Jim Traficant gets weekend job at WTAM-AM – the Cleveland radio station has signed former house member Traficant to do 3 months of shows at 1 PM on Saturdays. If you have a long memory, you’ll remember him as the guy on C-SPAN at 1 in the morning and giving very pointed 1 minute speeches with sunglassed on his head – that made many in Washington DC very uncomfortable. The Democrat was expelled from the House in 2002 on assorted corruption charges like having staff members do errands for him. He was released from jail last year and probably has a lot of things on his mind.

Why do radio station pick up convicted felons (although Traficant is not…technically). WRKO has convicted felon Finneran and I just read that Buddy Cianci, also a convicted felon on WPRO, is considering a run in Rhode Island against Patches Kennedy. A Kennedy vs Cianci run…does it get any lower than that?
Why do people go to the Godfather movies? Watch the Sopranos?
In Traficant’s case, I suspect he was railroaded because the Dem leadership got fed up with his pointed attacks on them…. I usually enjoyed his rants on the House floor.
As regular testers now know, Saturday and Sunday afternoon is the worst time to have a radio show on an AM station – you always are getting bumped by sports. This 3 month window is between the end of college football and the beginning of baseball – so he gets a chance to see if anyone cares what he has to say.
