I was watching CNN and some pictures from cell phones were shown. Since it borders with the Dominican Republic maybe they didn’t get hit as bad and folks are getting signals as they get closer to the border.
And anyone with 2 way satellite internet could use Skype (assuming they had electricity)
The country has a population of about 9 million people – according to the CIA factbook, there are about 108,000 land line phones and 3.2 million cell phones. It is a pretty sure bet the cell phones were overwhelmed even if the towers stayed active….
A good reporter when handed a phone call from a place with no phones working would probably ask “So why is your phone working?” People have been known to make up a story to get on the air….
