CBS TV accepts ad for Focus on the Family during the Superbowl and the Marxists at the United Church of Christ are irate. CBS had turned down their ad six years ago for being too controversial (advocating same sex marriage). The UCC Elders and their ilk (like the liberation theologists who infiltrated the Catholic church) are a big part of why I rejected joining the church as a teenager. It was clear to me the churches had been taken over by people who hated this country and its values.

Life is a universal value that is encoded in our Declaration of Independence as well as our Bill of Rights (see: 5th Amendment). Forcing the government to recognize your choice of relationship partner isn’t. I don’t think the UCC and all these groups have even seen the text of this ad yet, but because it says Focus on the Family they’re already presuming a lot of things…
…but I have to wonder if this is all about money. To be obvious, the economy isn’t as good as it was six years ago, and I imagine CBS isn’t in nearly as good of a position to turn down $3,000,000 in advertising money, from whatever source it may be.
The article alludes to that – TV isn’t in as bad a shape as radio, but it’s close (NBC being sold is a hint of how bad things are)…
The stronger hint (this is a press release, not a news story) is the UCC looks like they are going to test the waters with the new FCC commission to see how far they can push the “in the public interest” concept – that the airwaves are owned by the public, not by the license holders, so let’s make them broadcast in a “fair” way…
Part of the way this all works is likely someone at the FCC wants to raise this issue, so they call a friendly NGO that can establish “standing” on the issue and “invite” them to file a complaint
why is it that nobody is interested in a “fairness doctrine” for newspapers or TV?
At least so far, the government doesn’t issue licenses to run a newspaper – although it happens indirectly – like setting up a system for where a newspaper is allowed to place a news stand…. the failed newspaper act also prohibits creation of new newspapers where a city has had two failed newspapers merge… but in general, the government has no jurisdiction over newspapers – that pesky 1st amendment thingy
