“social justice” Christianity – another name is “liberation theology” has come onto Glenn Beck’s radar and vice versa. The most notorious group I remember is the Mary Knoll Sisters, a Catholic group that operates in Central and South America supporting Marxist revolutionary factions working for “social justice” causes like breaking up big banana farms and redistributing land to the people and generally working against the interests of the United States.
While listening to John Batchelor last night and learning that the United Farm Workers supports the cutoff of water used to irrigate the San Joaquin valley, it clicked in my brain that the logical inference is this is about land redistribution. The farm workers are supporting this to drive the big farmers into bankruptcy with the eye to the corporate farms being broken up and turned into farms so Mexican immigrants can farm “their land” and then Barack Obama will turn the water back on.
Glenn Stipulated today that he is playing catchup on his education – that he was unaware and not interested in the things he is now discovering until lately. As the poll today confirms, most of us learned the song “This land is My Land” in grade school. It’s probably also where we learned about Robin Hood and how he was a good guy for robbing the Rich and giving to the poor. The Progressive Movement has deep roots.
The Progressive echo chambers are also ramping up to make a fuss about Glenn suggesting that Christians who belong to a church that advocate “social justice” look for a new church as being anti-Christian (ironic since the complaint will most likely be coming from atheists)
Robin Hood robbed those who robbed the poor returning it back to the poor.
And how did “the rich” rob the poor? Did Robin Hood rob only those individuals who he knew “robbed” the poor, or did he lump all rich people together and prejudge them as guilty because they were rich?
Communism has a long history of co-opting (and corrupting) religion for its own purposes. Leon Trotsky (a person of Jewish origin who was an atheist) recruited for the Russian Revolution in the synagogues of eastern Europe. The few orthodox rabbis who gave him the boot were the first to be victims of pogroms after the communists took over. Christians should take a clue from history.
Beck is doing a great job of causing the Marxist Christians to self-identify themselves. Whether he is prepared for what he is learning we’ll have to see.
Many in the Democratic / Progressive movement make the mistake – particularly gay rights activists – of thinking that Christians are “right wingers” and their enemy. While there are some TV preachers like Pat Robertson and a few denominations that oppose social “progress”, a large portion of Christianity are sympathetic to those leftist political causes.
Back around 1990, I made the mistake of subscribing to the Christian Science Monitor until I saw its political slant.
Glenn specfically named the Anglican church today as the type of church Americans should avoid. I wonder if he’ll be banned in England for that.
