Why is Virginia Foxx (R-NC) making a speech about the Student Loan program in the discussion of the rules on Health Care Insurance reform?

Mention was made that the crowd outside is audible inside the hearing room. CSPAN is not showing video of the crowd outside….

Didn’t they “tie bar” the student loan bill and the healthcare reconciliation so they both are being passed together?

Yes – but all she needed to do was propose her amendment that it wasn’t germaine to the legislation under consideration. Instead she went into a lengthy monolog on the merits (or lack thereof) of the student loan program itself. This is the Rules committee, not the committee that oversees the Student Loan Guarantee program. Another Republican went off on some speech about how the excise taxes on type 1 medical equipment would affect jobs in his district. We’re doomed if you expect the Republicans to change this.

I believe the reconciliation bill includes a nationalization of the Stafford loan program. Why they’re including it in such a divisive bill, I have no idea.

If you vote down the bill, that means you oppose young people going to college, of course.

By the way, I do. A lot of people have the idea that the ultimate goal of education could be that 100% of all people go to college. A society cannot function with everyone being the captain, and nobody to pick the lettuce.

Why did Congress add the “Exit Tax” in The Heroes Earning Assistance and Relief Tax (HEART) Act?
Our lawmakers are masters of the feint.
