John Batchelor referred to “Soviet paratroopers” landing within hours of the outbreak. His NYU Russian History professor friend Stephen F. Cohen (married to Katrina vanden Heuvel – the Editor of the “progressive” Nation Magazine) made no effort to correct John’s “mistake”.
Within hours, Russia had recognized the new government. Bishkek is the location of an air base vital to support the efforts of President Obama’s War in Afghanistan.
Russia is one by one reasserting its control over the former “breakaway” Soviet Republics and pushing out European – and especially U.S. – influence..
You are correct Art Stone. The “fall” of Communism was a ruse and it worked perfectly. The West has been totally suckered. To this day the Liberals in the US think Russia is our friend and the Conservatives think they are a joke (i.e. not a threat).
The Russian Bear is no longer hibernating and the recent moves in Georgia, Ukraine, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, and the decapitation of all anti-Moscow Polish leadership are alarming wake up calls that Europe and the US are ignoring.
You might find these 2 books (written by a Soviet defector in the 1980’s and 1990’s) provide much insight into the Russia (& Chinese) plan that is now unfolding before our eyes.

I wonder sometimes if the KGB planners sit back in amazement at how well their plan has worked and how almostly completely duped the “free” world has become.
One of my long term words of advice on global politics – remember that the national sport of Russia is Chess, not checkers. Feinting vulnerability can be a deadly effective winning strategy.
I’ve alluded several times to a Detroit talk show host whose name was Mark Scott. He was on WXYT (which used to be a News/Talk station). I’m about 99% sure that he had Anatoliy Golitsyn on his show when that book came out. Mark Scott was an Ayn Rand Objectivist – he had a virulently loyal following, but struggled with low ratings and skittish sponsors…

Another frequent theme / guest of Mark Scott’s was the Warsaw ghetto uprising, and how Jews with only a couple guns were able to resist a heavily armed German force during WW2 for an extended period of time….(ultimately unsuccessful, but they died fighing rather than give up). He had on guests from the group Jews for the Preservation of Fireams Ownership
