Alvin Greene indicted on Friday afternoon

“They” say a prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich if he wants to.

Mr. Greene has been charged with a Felony for supposedly showing a college student an offensive image on a computer in a college library.   That’ll teach you to visit goatse.

Public computers typically go through proxy servers that log every thing a person does.   It should be pretty trivial to find out what images were on the computer screen as long as they have the log records.

So as we approach campaign season, we have Charles Rangel, Maxine Waters and Alvin Greene all being chased away from positions of power.   The news stories I see so far go out of their way to not mention the name of the Prosecutor, his/her political affiliation or ethnicity.

[Correction:  this happened inside a dorm, not in a library.  He had used an expired college ID to get access to the lobby of the dorm]

In South Carolina, Grand Jury pools decide on charges brought by the “Solicitor”.   In South Carolina, this is an elected position.

The Solicitor for Richmond County, SC is W Barney Giese

He’s a white male, a product of the University of South Carolina Law School.  He was first elected in 1994.   His father was the football coach for the Gamecocks for five years.

Giese is a Democrat (I’m shocked, I tell you!).  He is retiring this year, probably entirely unrelated to being arrested for DUI last year:

Those whose conduct gives room for talk are always the first to attack their neighbors.
