Tom Taylor’s newsletter reports that Comerica Bank has seized KTRB-AM and put the station into receivership. The station had been in Modesto and Pappas Broadcasting moved the station closer to the bay about 3 years ago.
The station had switched to News/talk and was Glenn Beck’s initial home in the Bay Area. Mancow and Phil Hendrie have also been on the station. After about a year as a News Talk station, KTRB switched to Xtra Sports talk in May of 2009.
After Savage was dumped by his home station (KSFO-AM)KNEW-AM in September 2009, he was off the air in San Francisco for quite a while. That frustrated him a lot, since much of the show’s purpose is him yelling at his Marxist ex-friends that live on North Beach. He triumphantly returned to his home market in February 2010 on KTRB and for a day or two pretended he liked sports, but it wasn’t a good fit.
Savage has hinted several times in the last month on the air that he is considering retiring at the end of the year or maybe going to just a weekend show. This change might push that idea down the road. KGO is not going to carry the show. Unless some Mexican music station wants to carry it, he’s pretty much out of options. KDOW is about the only realistic option – it’s a weak station in Palo Alto that runs financial talk. Salem Broadcasting owns it, but the city blocked their plans to build a new antenna and increase power, so it doesn’t have great coverage, and after dark can’t be heard in San Francisco at all.
Although Savage at times caused me to grit my teeth, he can and did score a few points as well. I never was a big listener, but if I understand that personality — dare I say ego? — retirement is a hateful option to him. I hope he finds a new home and continues to pillory the oozing malignant left in Gomorrah on the Pacific.
WordPress now won’t let me comment on my own posts – this isn’t a reply to your comment.
If anyone still thinks my characterization above about Savage’s motivation is Alex Jones fantasy stuff, the final 5 minutes of the 2nd hour tonight cleared any of that up. He talked at length again about the book store owner on Columbus Avenue on North Beach “Mr Spaghetti” who he knew from his days wandering the South Pacific with Allen Ginsberg and others….
I see 3 bookstore in Google Maps
City Lights Book Store has on its web site a promo about a movie about Allen Ginsberg – imagine that. The About Us page says the store was founded in 1953 by poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Peter D. Martin
At Stockton and Columbus, we have Cavalli Books and Cafe and Eastwind Books and Arts. Eastwind is an asian store with lots of martial arts stuff. Cavilli is a place that sells coffee and maybe a few books.
Google Ferlinghetti and Savage and see if you can handle the truth.
Here is a start if you come up empty:

Once you absorb that, do a search on Savage and “Timothy Leary”
Doesn’t Savage have enough listeners to attract advertisers?
Or has political correctness become so overpowering that Savage is now unacceptable to the entrenched power structures that have the USA in an iron-fisted grip?
“There’s class warfare, all right, Mr. (Warren) Buffett said, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.”
Since the USA is likely doomed to becoming an oligarchy anyway I suppose it doesn’t matter.
Viva La Raza!!!!!!!!
The once-sovereign USA has groomed its citizen-slave-sheep to be good obeyers of their masters.
Just obey.
Always OBEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Savage invented the formula for Rock Star energy drink – something he doesn’t mention largely so people don’t boycott it. My current working theory is Savage is working for free – he might even be paying TRN to air the show – that could explain why nobody cares how much he doesn’t work. He probably has a good income unrelated to radio.
The Washington Times morning program’s details hit the news in the last week and is related to my theory. Turns out they were paying TRN $100k a month to air the show – some of that probably flowed to local stations to buy time and get the show onto stations. The sugar daddy has pulled the checkbook and TRN wasn’t paid. The Morning News show has been moved in-house into TRN’s studios and probably is on borrowed time if the checkbook stays closed.
Mr stone here sounds like a total ass hole who hasnt done any real research on Savage.
For example, the bank that bought the station savage was on is owned by who? Ahhhh
I’ll let you wikapedia that one dumb ass. It’s one of your favorite liberal scum bags you probably felate to. Moreover, his ratings have never been higher in 10 years and they are growing. You can try to down play the man all you want but the fact is, you are a liar and you lie because the truth does not fit with your agenda. I didnt happen to look you up on the net but I can guess you’re probably gay, just a guess, probably a pot head, probably never held a real job, and think more of yourself than others.
Im pretty sure you would jump behind a pregnant lady in the event a suicide bomber ever came into your fave tea shop during one of your free-verse poem jams and scream like a bitch as you watch your white friends dredlocks fly though the air as their faces are blown off. Notice you didnt say one thing about what this man stands for or any of the arguments that he has made against idiots like you. All I can tell you liberal scum is your time is quickly over. We will remember in November.
Enjoy the allowance your parents send you. Go read the Karan and find out what they have in store for you. Go plant a tree and wipe your ass with the paper we make for you. Go smoke some weed and pretend no one is as smart as you. You are a big pompus no-body who isn’t good for anybody and doesn’t contribute a damn thing to society. In fact, you are the head-lice of society. Get a job, grow some balls, and understand you have everything you have because of who came before you.
Comerica Bank is based in Detroit. I hear there are some Muslims who live in Michigan – maybe those two things are related! On the other hand, Comerica is a publicly traded corporation (symbol: CMA). I probably own a small part of it.
Harry Pappas owned 5 TV stations, 5 radio stations, and a number of low power TV stations. I’m sure those Ay-Rabs in Dearborn foreclosed on the loan just so they could get rid of Dr Savage at the direction of C.A.I.R. Makes sense to me! It had nothing to do with the company not paying the bill for fuel for its generator.

KMPH-AM – the station Pappas still owns in Modesto has been off the air since the end of August. In their notification to the FCC they stated:
(Actually, my memory from living in Michigan is that Comerica was the bank that GM did their banking business with – GM didn’t literally own Comerica, but had a lot of influence over it)
Psst…. the President/CEO of Comerica is Ralph W. Babb, Jr.
Look that up on Wik”a”pedia. He was born in Texas.
I love Savage listeners :)
Mark Levin is salivating. Between Savage and Levin there are 17 million listeners (according to Talkers) in the 6-9 ET time slot. Lots of them to be had if Savage up and quits.
I don’t trust the radio auience rating agencies – I trust derivative works based on their data even less.
Many listeners can hear stations in more than one market – or they work in one market and live in another. How does he avoid double counting cums? Are those numbers nightly audience or monthly cums? (meaning a person heard the show at least one time during the month for at least 5 minutes). I’ve never read any description of talker’s magazine meta-ratings methodology.
The ratings could be highly skewed by whether the show is on an AM station after dark (which would apply to Savage in most markets). If I take a nighttime share and apply it to the daytime coverage pattern, I’m seriously overstating the number of potential listeners. That’s just the first two guesses at why the numbers may be flawed.
I should have put up the asterisk for just that… but nonetheless, Savage and Levin both have relatively large audiences by pretty much any measure (and I believe the SRG ratings show this as well), possibly the most for two shows up head-to-head against each other (Beck right now has a huge lead over Ingraham, which is probably the only one that could possibly come close). Levin is one with a lot to gain. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see a boost in job opportunities on the west coast (as it is drive time out there).
Keep in mind that Dr Laura (who is live 3-6 PM Eastern) is going away in a month or two. That’s also going to cause a lot of movement, although her show is not on quite the same range of stations as political talk shows.
Savage always comes up with weird, but thoughly plausable, explanations to current events. And sometimes they are the only ones that truly make any sense.
And I appreciate his input, and hope he continues, even though he can make me grit my teeth also sometimes.
I used to listen to Savage but he lost me during his fight with CAIR and the UK Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith. Suddenly he went off the deep end and would go into these incredible rants of a madman. Then sometimes he would calm down and spend an hour talking about his dog or what he had for dinner the night before. I just had to tune him out. Mark Levin, although a bit calmer tends to do the same. Rush and Hannity are not conservatives but Republicans and they tend to toe the party line. Beck is turning into a preacher. Only Laura Ingraham seem to talk in a coherent and logical style.
So I tend to do a lot of reading nowadays.
I share your pain, word for word. I listen now a lot to Stitcher and Podcasts of John Batchelor
im a little confused here. I spoke with someone from SRG whom I believed and was somewhat lead to believe was the only person responsible for the site. I don’t recall that person being a complete leftist with a bias against the 3 third largest talk radio show in the country.
He may of been forth behind beck but now that becks out im sure the ratings are going to shift.
The article starts with the station going into receivership which means the station/ownership made a series of bad decisions. Some of those could of been having sports on or other stuff that people didn’t want to listen to.
If you don’t like Dr Savage you don’t have to listen to him. The person I spoke with at SRG said the site generates no revenue.
What’s your day job Mr Stone?
I am not a fan of Michael Savage, although I originally started the web site because of the attempts to shut him up. I have since concluded that Savage is doing “Conservative Schtick” on the radio, which he states constantly if you listen to what he says. Keep questioning everything. Eventually the truth will set you free.
