Just read an article from Stream the World in the News. Quote: “Emmis Communications has allied with streaming-technology provider StreamTheWorld and audience-measurement company Ando Media to put all Emmis radio stations onto a new streaming-audio platform.”
Looks like they’re going for a monopoly.
And with good reason. Ando Media is highly capable of targeting ads at specific listeners using their platform. Streaming where the ads are targeted at the individual (or at least the demographic profile) is a very different model than over the air where everyone hears the same ad and 90% of the people aren’t remotely interested in the product. It’s a brave new world, and Arbitron’s rating service might be the long term casualty. With streaming, you know exactly who heard the ad – no need for guessing and estimates.
