If you have a good product, they will come. But, I agree, 50,000 for non-talk seems high.
News/Talk programs is about 43,000 out of 108,000. That’s not out of line. Over 9,000 of that is Glenn Beck and not hugely out of line with the past. Remember that not all stations that carry news/talk programs are news/talk stations (like Imus is on a lot of sports stations)… and some people bookmark the station rather than the program – so they are listening to a news/talk station, but I don’t “connect” it to the program that happens to be on the air at the moment.
The big growth has been in the music pages I think. But you don’t get counted if you’re just going down the list, listening to each one for 30 seconds and moving on….
Looking around, more traffic is starting to arrive from Bing.com…. for “streaming radio”, SRGuide is #1…. for “streaeming internet”, it’s on the first page
Being able to filter by iPhone makes the “by genre” pages a lot more useful, although I haven’t seen any iPhone sites pointing here yet (but I haven’t looked either)
I only use Bing now and from what I’ve read lately, it seems to be heavily favored by FireFox users. Being pushed by MajorGeeks doesn’t hurt either.
You really seem sold on your IPhone…right? I can’t come up with a reason to get one.
Stupid question (new technology seems to have passed me by) Can you stream Sirius stations through an IPhone?
Yes you can!
There is one huge exception – you can’t listen to Howard Stern. That’s why the Sirius XM app has over 100,000 reviews – probably 90% of them are Howard Stern fans complaining
Also Quinn and Rose are on an XM only channel, so you can’t stream them
If you have a wireless router, you can walk around with the iPhone in your pocket and listen to the streams anywhere within range of the router (like outside) even if AT&T 3G service isn’t available where you are.
I’m doing a large part of the “work” now using the iPhone, except the testing. The lack of direct support for flash and windows media is a serious limitation. FStream only works some of the time, and raw MP3 streams are iffy – they work maybe half the time.
The 6.3 million number is only the listens to a specific program. The archive log record count is currently 8.9 million (counting of program counts happened for a while before I started keeping detailed logs)
Turns out the traffic is still about 80% news/talk. What’s happening is people are bookmarking the station, not the program. I may do a tweak to count the “listen” for the program on the air when you start listening, even if you didn’t know what program was on :)
