Letterman doesn’t make sense – he’s only been married since March of this year (2009) – his son was born in 2003 to his current wife… other than the employer/emplyee aspect, there is nothing particularly worthy of an extortion attempt for something that happned “a long time ago”.
And what person smart enough to be a CBS news producer who investigates criminal matters (other than the obvious answer) would cause them to think they could take a “fake check” for $2 million and waltz into a bank and deposit it?
The whole thing makes that producer look like the world’s most inept criminal. Letterman is a moral void, and blackmail doesn’t work with someone who has no standards. Also, his wife was one of the female employees he was doing – if she didn’t know that he was running around with other staffers, that says more about her lack of intelligence than it does about Letterman’s lack of character.
