Turkey is now actively involved in brokering a cease fire between Qadaffi and the “Rebels”. The Russian Bear is growling with increased volume that NATO is exceeding the parameters of the UN Resolution and “taking sides” in a Civil War. While Russia is thrilled to be selling oil at $115 a barrel, at some point they’ll feel a need to defend their long time ally.
Rule #1 of War: Don’t start a war you aren’t prepared to lose.
So let’s say Turkey gets both sides to agree to stop the fighting. Or Russia starts to overtly support Qadaffi by perhaps escorting “humanitarian” supplies into Tripoli and inviting a direct confrontation with the U.S. Navy.
If both sides within the country have agreed to a cease fire, will Obama, England and France continue to say there is no cease fire and keep bombing the country?
Let’s say some agreement is reached – perhaps to partition the country or allow Benghazi autonomy. Maybe Qadaffi calls for elections knowing there is a good chance he might win a national election anyway…. What now? How do England and France back down? What is the justfication for continuing to steal^h^h^h^h “freeze” the bank accounts of the governmemt fo Libya? What happens to the European banks when Libya moves all their money to China and cancels all the oil development contracts and gives them to Turkey and China?
Latest news is that Turkey has agreed (probably with the agreement of the Qadaffi folks) that they’ll run the airport at Benghazi for now, and send a ship to Misrata to evacute injured people to Turkey. I smell a bigger agreement coming soon – one that France won’t like.
You know Art, I think maybe the “rebel support team” (I have a hard time calling them “allies”) might have moved too quickly to extrapolate out the possible end games here.
Especially if Turkey comes out ahead in this deal, with France not sitting at the big table after being one of the chief instigators of this mess. And especially since, for all intents and purposes, Turkey is now a Muslim nation and not a secular one as everyone has reported in the past.
If Russia does what you say MIGHT happen then Barry will definitely be backed into a corner. He won’t be able to confront them since: 1. he is a paper tiger and, 2. being a socialist at heart, he will back down in honor of his Motherland.
Since Italy is being propped up by Libya money where are they on these events?
