Japan has formally raised the Fukushima disaster to a 7 on the INES scale that rates the severity of nuclear incidents. That’s currently the top number on the scale.
I’m getting more serious about the idea of opening up immigration for Japanese refugees. Imagine how Detroit would change with a few hundred thousand people moving into town who would start the day by sweeping the street in front of their house. It could also shore up real estate values in California. I would rather have Japanese neighbors than some of the immigrant refugee groups we’ve invited in the past.

“I would rather have Japanese neighbors than some of the immigrant refugee groups we’ve invited in the past.”
I’m against ANY group that won’t assimulate and instead try to make us “tolerant” of their laws.
I’m also against ANY politician who kow-tows to these groups.
So, lets shut the door down before they become a viable voting bloc.
She wasn’t a refugee, but I married my Japanese “koibito,” and that has defined my life for 40 years. Her first imperative after landing on our fair shores was to master English (and she did) and to achieve citizenship (and she did). She knows more about our Constitution, government and history than many of our government-school partisan union-doofus teachers. I’m certain of it. AND she votes without fail in all elections. She is my own personal She Who Must be Obeyed, and I’m lucky I found her. They’re not perfect by any means, but Japanese in Fukushima set some standards for the world to envy if not to emulate (where are all the looters?). Japanese are in-group/out-group conscious and typically want to assimilate into the society in which they live. I’d happily welcome them, even if they are fastidious, industrious, clean, loyal and productive.
There is truly no better citizen than the Japanese. Honor, integrity, are values espoused in their society at a very early age. During the Fukushima disaster the Japanese went to grocery stores and bought (I said BOUGHT) just want they needed to survive the next few days so that their neighbors would also have food available to them. Compare that to the animals in New Orleans, or Haiti, and you will realize there is no comparison. Several years ago I had the pleasure of volunteering at the Univ. of TX Castaneda Library. After 9:00 all the faces studying and doing research were Asians. Asians appreciate education and love our country and the oportunities offered to them. I always remember in 2001 there were 74 candidates for a PhD in Chemistry. 53 were Asians, 19 American Whites, 1 Hispanic, and 1 Romanian.
