The end of Krispy Kreme – it is with great sadness that I report the demise of the last Krispy Kreme donut store in New England (in Milford Connecticut). That “poll” about how a business with a high margin product should react to an empty store and employees standing around with nothing to do was about this store. Dunkin’ Donuts “owns” New England, and Krispy Kreme donuts had a huge uphill battle. They might have had a chance competing aggressively on price, but instead as business slowed, they kept raising prices. The folks who “took Krispy Kreme Public” never understood its success in the south, and tried to turn it into Starbucks with donuts. It’s very hard to turn a donut into a luxury food, especially one as devoid of nutrition as a Krispy Kreme.

I got slightly scared there. Our Krispy Kreme in Scranton has been there for decades. I think their real problem was they went for product overload.
Back in the 80’s the only place in NEPA you could get KK was Scranton. Then when KK went public, they opened stores on every corner, sold them in Supermarkets, Turkey Hill, Hess Gas. You name it!
They tried to do a 20 building plan in two minutes.
BTW: you will happy to know Cheveron gas still alive, I was in Virginia Beach last weekend and fueled up at one.
