The spring is being wound tighter and tighter. I suspect it will be some unrelated world event that breaks things loose – something probably not even on our radar yet. Like maybe a Muslim uprising in Russia. Or civil war in Iran spreading over into Iraq… or the government of Pakistan falling to the Taliban. Or California defaulting on its bonds…. It looks like temporarily the Feds eating up all the worthless paper is holding back the perceptions of problems. When Worldcom and Adelphia hid their losses in “off balance sheet” entities, that was a crime. When Tim Geithner does it, that’s “Intelligent Regulation”
