Supreme Court Judge Stevens and 2010 – while Republicans can’t possibly get enough seats in the U.S. Senate in 2010 to “repeal” Obamacare, if they get a majority, they can block President Obama’s replacement for Supreme Court judges if 51 of them vote “no”. That’s why Stevens is making noise. If he quits now, the Senate will gladly confirm anyone Obama nominates. If they wait until after November 2010, that may no longer be true.

Assuming the republican party can find a spine…. They simply refuse to do the hard work and shoulder any responsibilty. I find it breath takingly stupid that they are actually a) floating a third Bush an b) endlessly pander to Steele.
It’s about the money. Every once in a while, John Batchelor compares current events to the 1850s, when the Whig party fractured in two, ultimately causing the creation of the Republican Party – at the cost of the civil war. Unfortunately, he views Sarah Palin as the problem, not the solution. If the Republicans just run “the next guy in line”, that will push things over the edge into a new Poliitical party. The Republicans think they can coopt and take control of the Tea Party movement. They’re in for a rude awakening.
