“We are taxed too much” say 66% of Americans – when half of all Americans pay no income tax at all? How can that be?

We aren’t paying for the government we’re getting – it is being funded with debt. The problem is overspending, not over taxing.

There’s also state income tax, local taxes and the litany of fees and surcharges your friendly neighborhood government decides to impose (not to mention FICA). Federal income tax is big but it’s far from the only tax out there. (Note that unlike progressives, I’m not using this as an excuse to exempt half the people from the tax rolls. It’s still not right.)

FICA isn’t a “tax” – it’s an “insurance contribution” *wink* *wink*

I did just participate in that poll you put up on the topic and I am quite surprised that most people are still voting the federal individual tax as the most “too high.” Historically the personal income tax rate is very low by historic standards– I would like to know what rate would they consider low enough. Too complicated and convoluted? Heck yes! Too high in general? I’m not so convinced.

When the tax was created originally at 2%, it was to apply only to “rich people” – that’s how it was sold by the Progressives

People are really irrational about the income tax – the same people who want the government to solve problems will engage in extreme behavior to “save taxes” – they’ll take out a mortgage they don’t need in order to get a tax deduction (overlooking that the standard deduction would have given them much of the same benefit)…. they’ll invest in tax free state bonds when they are paying no income tax.

I wonder if people are answering that because they think “other people are paying too much in taxes”, not themselves.

Hence the TEA Party (‘T’axed ‘E’nough ‘A’lready) movement
